3G closure reminders on affected devices
If you hear a message when you go to make a call, it’s because you’re using a device that will be affected by Telstra’s 3G closure which will begin on 28 October 2024.
We’re using these messages because of the significant impact the closure will have – particularly if your device will stop being able to make emergency 000 calls.
These messages will run from 30 May.
How can I stop the message?
To stop hearing the message, you’ll need to start using a phone that will be compatible with the Telstra network after the 3G closure.
How do I make sure my phone’s compatible?
Look for an email from us about the closure – it’ll have exact instructions, based on the phone you’re using now. We would have sent it to the email address you use to log in to My Account.
If you can’t find the email, get in touch with us using the chat box in the bottom-right corner, or the number at the bottom of the page. You can also text ‘3G’ to 3498 to find out how your phone’s affected, and what you need to do.
Once you’ve followed those instructions, allow 24 hours for our database to update. After that, you should stop hearing the message.
What about emergency calls?
This message won’t play before calls to Emergency 000.
