Why am I getting a SIM card error?

What to do when you get SIM error notifications

If you’re getting a SIM card error, something might be stopping your phone from reading it properly – here are a few things you can try to get it back up and running.

1. Take the SIM card out, then re-insert it.

2. Turn your phone off and on again.

3. Turn Aeroplane/Flight Mode on and off again.

4. Make sure you’ve activated your SIM card.

If you’re using a new SIM card, it won’t work until you’ve activated it.

5. Reset your network settings.

Heads up: if you do this on an Android device, you’ll lose your saved wi-fi networks, your paired Bluetooth devices and your mobile network preferences. This means you’ll have to add these again after doing the reset.

That said, a reset can help your SIM card connect. To reset your network settings:

Apple

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Select General

  3. Select Transfer or Reset iPhone

  4. Select Reset

  5. Select Reset Network Settings

Samsung

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Select General management

  3. Select Reset

  4. Select Reset network settings

Google

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Select System

  3. Select Reset options

  4. Select Reset Mobile Network Settings

If none of these steps work, there might be a problem with your SIM card. To check, put it into another working device and see if you have the same problem. If you do, you can order a replacement SIM from us online for free.
