Eligible Belong customers can now get a speed upgrade from nbn co at no cost.
Why nbn co is upgrading your speed
From mid-September 2025, nbn co is rolling out faster wholesale speed tiers for high-speed residential plans across Australia.
As part of this national update, eligible Belong Premium customers using FTTP and HFC tech will receive faster speeds.

The speeds you experience may be slower in practice due to the maximum line speed available at your home and things like your modem and cabling, in-home setup and wiring. Check our nbn Key Facts Sheet (PDF | 79 KB) which has more info about speeds.
If you’re eligible for the nbn speed upgrade, you don’t need to do anything to activate the upgrade, we’ll handle it. We’ll send you an email with all the info. Your modem will still work with your current plan speeds. You’ll need a compatible modem to access the faster speeds of your new plan, though. We talk about modems in the ‘How can I access the faster speeds?’ section of this article.
What are the eligibility criteria?
To get this speed upgrade from nbn co, you need to be:
On our Premium plan.
Using FTTP and HFC technology to connect to the internet.
What’s changing?
If you’re on our Belong Premium plan using FTTP or HFC tech, nbn co will upgrade your service so you can get the Fast plan. You may notice faster speeds before the plan name updates in My Account or on your bill – that update will follow shortly.
You don't need to do anything to activate the nbn co upgrade – it will happen automatically.
Will Belong give me a free modem upgrade?
Belong does not offer a free modem as a part of this upgrade.
The latest Belong DWA4135 modem will achieve the higher speeds available on our Fast and Ultrafast plans.
If you have an older model Belong modem, you can purchase a Belong DWA4135 modem for $132 or buy your own modem but you should ensure that it supports higher speeds.

Will there be any internet downtime?
Around mid-September, we’ll need to reset your nbn connection. This will mean about 4–5 minutes of internet downtime, usually in the early hours of the morning. If you experience any ongoing internet issues, try turning your modem off and on. If that doesn’t get you back online, follow these steps here to reconnect your internet.
Will this upgrade change the price of my plan?
Nope. This upgrade won’t change the cost of your plan (and any promos you’re currently getting will still apply).
The only things that will change are your plan name and your estimated typical busy period download and upload speeds.
Do I need a new modem to access the new speeds?
Not all modems can go faster than 100Mbps.
That means your choice of modem/router – and how its set up within your property – can limit your ability to use the maximum speed of your broadband plan.
If that’s the case for your modem, you won’t be able to reach the full speeds of your new plan. If you’re not fussed about those higher speeds, you can skip this info about modem compatibility.
Here’s what you need to know about modems:
Belong DWA4135 modem (that’s the latest one)
DWA4135 is compatible with the new Fast and Ultrafast plans.
If you have this modem, and you’re eligible for it, you can take advantage of the nbn co speed upgrade.
We started selling this modem from September 2024 – if you bought a modem from us after that, you'll most likely have this one.
Belong DWA0122 modem
DWA0122 is compatible with the new Fast plan.
If you have this modem, and you’re eligible for it, you can take advantage of the nbn co speed upgrade for our new Fast plan.
Earlier Belong modems
These modems are compatible with speeds up to our Premium plan (100 Mbps download / 17 Mbps upload).
They can be used on Fast or Ultrafast plans but you won’t be able to get the benefit of the full speed of those plans.
A Cat5e or higher ethernet cable connecting your modem and your nbn box is required to access the faster speeds of the new plans. The cable type is usually printed in small text along the cable itself.
If you don’t know which Belong modem you have, check the back of your modem. You’ll find the model's name listed there.

Bring Your Own (BYO) Modem
If you’ve decided to use your own modem, we won’t know its specifications or what it can do. That means we won’t be able to confirm if your modem can support the full speed of your selected plan. You can check if your modem is compatible with your chosen plan by:
Checking the technical specifications of your modem.
Checking the manufacturer’s website or your modem’s user manual.
Getting in touch with us for info about the minimum requirements for modem compatibility. This support article about BYO modems is a good starting point.
Using a modem that doesn’t meet those necessary specifications may result in slower speeds or connectivity issues. At a high level, here are some things to look for:
Check your modem’s specifications to see if it supports wholesale speed tiers above 100Mbps.
As a rule of thumb, modems made after 2022 will generally be capable of delivering the new expected speeds of your plan.
Your modem will need to have a 1Gb WAN and LAN ports and support Wi-Fi 6 AX.
Your modem will need to have a Cat5e or higher ethernet cable connected to your nbn box to access the faster speeds of the new Fast and Ultrafast plans. The cable type is usually printed in small text along the cable itself.
What happens next?
nbn co will upgrade your wholesale speed in mid-September. Your plan name will change some time after that. Once that happens, we’ll send you an email to confirm everything.
