Our new Fast and Ultrafast nbn® plans deliver faster speed tiers to customers using fibre to the premises (FTTP) and hybrid-fibre coaxial (HFC) to get online.

The speeds customers experience may be slower in practice due to the maximum line speed available at their home and things like their modem, in-home setup and wiring. Check our nbn Key Facts Sheet (PDF | 79 KB) for more info about speeds.
Can I get the Fast and Ultrafast plans?
If you have a fibre to the premises (FTTP) or hybrid-fibre coaxial (HFC) nbn connection, you can get the new plans.
If you don’t have a FTTP or HFC connection, you may be eligible for a $0 nbn tech upgrade. Check out our page on the tech upgrades for more info.
What can I do with faster download and upload speeds?
Download speeds affect how quickly your connection can retrieve info from the internet. A faster connection can generally retrieve more info more quickly.
That means data-intensive activities, like downloading big files (e.g. video game updates) or streaming high-quality video, will likely be faster on a faster connection.
Upload speeds affect how quickly you can share data over the internet. For example, a faster upload speed can help your video and audio on a video call be sent to people more smoothly.
Faster download and upload speeds also, generally, have more space for multiple devices to connect and do things at once.
For example, splitting a download speed of 80Mbps across 5 devices will mean a slower average connection than splitting a download speed of 400Mbps. All of this will also depend on your home setup and the devices you’re using, of course.
Will I need a new modem to access the faster speeds?
Potentially: not all modems can deliver the speeds of the Fast and Ultrafast plans. Check out our modem compatibility guide for more info.
