Q: Does the Belong modem come with a warranty and support?

The Belong modem comes with 24-month warranty . Our team can also help you with troubleshoot if anything goes wrong. And we have self-serve troubleshooting tools as well. If the modem needs a firmware update, we’ll send it the update (you won’t need to do a thing).

How soon can I get connected?

Accepted Answer

That depends – we can do same-day connections in some cases, but if you need a modem or new tech installed, it can take up to two weeks. We can give you a better idea of this during signup.

How do the different nbn plan speeds affect what I can do online?

The more intensive your internet use is, the more you need speed. Our nbn Key Facts Sheet (PDF | 41 KB) has a run down of what you might need, depending on how you use the internet at your place.

How does my nbn technology type affect the plans I can get?

Accepted Answer

The difference between nbn connection types is the type of wiring that connects your place. If your wiring can’t deliver certain speeds, you may not be able to sign up to a high-speed plan.

Am I eligible for the Fast or Ultrafast speed tiers?

If you use a fibre to the premises (FTTP) or hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) to connect to the nbn network, chances are you can get the Fast or Ultrafast plans. To find out if you’re eligible, check your address to see available plans.

What are the Belong modem’s tech specs?

Here’s what you get with the Belong modem (DWA4135):

Wi-fi 6 (802.11 ac)
WPA2/WPA3
1Gbps WAN port for snappy connections

Compatible with wi-fi extenders
Built-in parental controls

Wi-fi 6 can mean a faster wi-fi connection, even with multiple devices connected at the same time (compared to wi-fi 5). That means you can get smooth streaming, gaming and browsing.

WPA3 is an upgrade for your wi-fi security. It provides tougher encryption than WPA2, making it harder for hackers to crack your network.

USB 3.0 transfers data more quickly than USB 2.0, helping your devices share info faster.

What happens if I use my own modem?

Accepted Answer

Using your own modem can save you time and money – but it also means we can only give you general advice if something goes wrong. That’s because other modems can’t connect to the full range of troubleshooting tools we use to help you solve connection problems.

If you’re comfortable with tech (and navigating it when something goes wrong), using your own modem is a great option.

Do you sell home phones?

We don’t offer any home phone services, however you can sign up to our mobile plans which include unlimited standard calls to national numbers and use part of Telstra’s network to help keep you connected.

How does my nbn technology type affect the plans I can sign up for?

Accepted Answer

The way a home connects to the nbn network can vary from place to place. This is known as your ‘nbn technology type’, and will affect what speed plans you can get with us. For example, if you’re on Fibre to the Premise technology you could get our Premium speed plan, but if you’re on Fibre to the Node you’ll only be able to get our Starter or Standard Plus speed plans.

How will I get billed?

Once your service is activated, we’ll process your payment automatically on or around the same day each month (unless your first payment is on the 29th, 30th or 31st, in which case future payments will come out on the 1st). You can find your billing date in My Account.

Question 12

What is an nbn box, and where can I find mine?

Accepted Answer

An nbn box, sometimes known as an nbn Connection Device (NCD) or Network Termination Device (NTD), is a small, black or white box with the nbn co logo on it. It’s installed inside your home (typically near a wall socket) and connects your modem to the nbn network.

If you need one, we’ll let you know and organise it for you.

What do I get with my $80 SIM?

If you’re a new customer activating a Belong nbn service for the first time, we’ll send you a bonus mobile SIM with $80 credit. It’s a nice little bonus that lets you test drive a no-lock-in Belong mobile plan. Activate it, give it to a friend – how you use it is up to you. Learn more about the free mobile SIM.

Can my modem handle a high speed nbn plan?

Potentially. Your choice of modem/router – and how it’s set up within your property – can limit you from getting the full speeds of the plan. You can check out our modem setup and speed compatibility article for the full rundown but here’s the gist:

Our latest Belong modem (DWA4135) can deliver the speeds of both the Fast and Ultrafast plan. We started selling it from September 2024.
If you’re using the second most recent Belong modem (DWA0122), it can deliver the speeds of the Fast plan only.
If you’re using earlier Belong modems, it wont support the speeds of the Fast or Ultrafast plan.
If you’re using your own modem, we can’t confirm what speeds it can deliver. You can check the modem compatibility using its specs (via its manufacturer website or user manual).

You should also check you have a Cat5e or higher ethernet cable between the modem and the nbn box. If you don’t, you cant access the speeds of the high speed nbn plans. The cable type is usually printed in small text along the cable itself.
