International Roaming troubleshooting and user guide

What is International Roaming

International Roaming lets you keep using your regular Belong mobile service while travelling overseas. That means you can make and receive calls, send and receive SMS and MMS and use data without getting a new SIM card or phone number.

To find out more, head to our International Roaming page.

How International Roaming works

  1. Buy a travel pack up to 365 days before you travel. (You can also buy one overseas.)

  2. Travel to your destination

  3. Pack starts automatically when you connect in a compatible destination

  4. Track usage in app and by notifications

  5. Buy a new pack if you run out of calls, data or time.

Troubleshooting

Before you get to your destination:

  1. Make sure roaming is available at your destination.

  2. Buy a travel pack for your service through your Belong account.

  3. Make sure roaming is turned on for your device. Check out the info below if you need a hand.

If you’re having problems at your destination:
It can take up to 10 minutes for your phone to connect to an overseas mobile network. If it’s been longer than 10 minutes, try this:

  1. Make sure airplane mode is turned off.

  2. Restart your device.

  3. Make sure roaming is turned on in your device settings (if you didn’t do this before you left Australia).

  4. Set your device to automatically select a network.

  5. If you still can’t make calls or use data, try manually selecting another network until it works. (You won’t be charged extra for this.) We have some info about doing this below.

  6. Try a different device, if you have one available.

If you're still having trouble, there may be an issue with the local network. Give us a call on .

If you’re using a Belong mobile service and calling from one of the eligible countries mentioned here, your call will be toll free.

Calling

If you’ve bought an International Roaming travel pack, you can make standard calls back home to Australia or standard calls to any of the destinations included in our roaming service.

Premium numbers are not included.

You’ll use your 150 minutes of calls when you make or receive calls.

Call forwarding
If you're roaming and you've turned on conditional call forwarding, any forwarded calls will be deducted from your total call minutes.

We recommend turning off call forwarding, or setting it to unconditional call forwarding, when you’re roaming if you want to avoid using your call time.

How to make calls when overseas

When you’re calling someone in another country, you need to dial their country code before their phone number.

Some of the contacts in your device may not be saved with the country code. If you’re having trouble reaching someone via their saved contact, try resaving the number with the country code or manually typing the number with the country code prefix.
