Temporary Disaster Roaming
Temporary Disaster Roaming (TDR) is a capability designed to help people stay connected when their mobile network is disrupted by a major natural disaster, such as a bushfire, cyclone or flood.

When would Temporary Disaster Roaming be used?
TDR is intended to be used during major natural disasters when a mobile network has been disrupted and another participating network is still available to help support connectivity in the affected area. Your phone may temporarily connect to that network where technically and operationally feasible, which may allow you to make calls, send or receive text messages and access basic data for critical websites and apps.
Activation will depend on the circumstances of the event and whether TDR can be deployed safely and effectively. Because it’s designed to be used as a last resort, it’s not something customers are likely to see often.
All of this is in addition to the ability to call Triple Zero which is a functionality that’s already built into mobile phones and is different to TDR.
