Listed / unlisted numbers and the Integrated Public Number Database

Belong’s obligations

All Australian carriage service providers – including Belong – are legally obliged to submit details to the IPND for each phone number they provide to a customer, and must swiftly correct any errors or changes they become aware of.

What details are in the database?

Here are the details we provide to the IPND to store:

  • your mobile phone number

  • your name

  • your home address

  • whether or not the phone number is publicly listed in directories (Belong won’t list your number unless you ask us to).

Protecting your privacy

Access to the IPND is managed and regulated to protect the privacy and confidentiality of the information it holds. You can access (and correct) the information the IPND holds on you by .

Can you opt out of the database?

You can’t – being listed in the database is essentially part of the agreement you make by taking out a phone number.

More on the IPND

Can’t get enough of the Integrated Public Number Database? There’s plenty more info about it here on ACMA website.

Listed and unlisted phone numbers

Your mobile number can either be ‘listed’ or ‘unlisted’, which affects whether your details appear in public directories.

Listed numbers: If your mobile number is listed, it means your name, address and mobile number will appear in public directories, like Telstra’s directory assistance service.

Unlisted numbers: If your number is unlisted, your details are kept private – they won’t appear in any public directories.

Respecting your privacy

When you join Belong, we automatically set your phone number to be unlisted, so that your details don’t appear in any public directories.

Making your phone number listed

If you’d like to change your details to listed – so that they appear in things like directory assistance – and we’ll make it happen. There’s no charge for listing your details publicly.

At Belong, we treat your personal information very seriously, so we may be in touch to verify your identity before we make the change. It can take up to two business days for your details to appear in online directories.

Making your phone number unlisted

If you previously changed your details to listed and you’d like them to be unlisted, let us know by

We’ll make the change within one business day, but it may take up to another two days for your details to be removed from online directories.
